Surafeal "Rafiti" Ghirmai has started his second season with the University of Texas as an offensive lineman. Rafiti who was a Redshirt Freshman last season made some impressions during the spring 2019 workouts for the Longhorns. He is now being looked at as one of the backups and has been getting some snaps.
The move by the Longhorns along the offensive line now has been to start giving the second and third-year former highly touted recruits like Rafiti more playing time in limited spots. This is where the sophomore offensive tackle and former four-star recruit comes into play. Most scouting reports are showing the young man is a high motor linemen with an NFL prospect.
Rafiti has put on a lot of size since he originally joined the Longhorns as part of the 2018 signing class. He now stands at 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds and could be even bigger within the next two years. Rafiti is also improving his fundamentals and footwork off the line of scrimmage under the guidance of Texas coach Tom Herman.
